The Best Pizzas in Edmonton
“Unless you are a pizza, the answer is yes, I can live without you,” said Bill Murray, an American actor and comedian.
It is quite marvelous how a piece of flatbread with a few toppings took over minds and stomachs all over the world. According to The Globe and Mail, “more than 8,000 restaurants serve pizza in Canada, bringing up annual sales of about $4-billion— representing nearly 10 percent of the total food-services industry.”
This industry does not only include famous chains such as Pizza Hut or Domino’s, but also locally owned restaurants. Frankly speaking, the latter ones are becoming more and more popular throughout the country, Edmonton including. It does not really matter whether you prefer ordering pizza delivery and eating while lounging on your couch or going out to a restaurant, the city has plenty of options to offer.
Before my husband took his passion for pizza to another level and bought himself a ROCCBOX oven (that cooks a perfect Neapolitan pizza in 90 seconds), we were vivid visitors to local restaurants in search of an impeccable Italian pie. That is why researching the best pizzas in Edmonton, I added some of my favourite places, which hopefully will catch your attention and deliver pure enjoyment.
Why Trust Us
A genuine appetite for a combination of a perfect crust, sweet and sour tomato sauce, and creamy mozzarella cheese takes one place in search of an ideal pizza. Gladly there is more than one local restaurant that serves authentic pizza pies. Hence, all places selected for this list earned at least 4.5 stars and hundreds of reviews. Satisfied customers rate popular and less well-known pizza restaurants, and a thorough analysis of those reviews allowed us to draw up both advantages and disadvantages of each place alike.
Another factor is the opinion of some local publications such as Avenue Magazine. They mention award-winning places such as Tony’s Pizza Palace and this list includes them, as well.
Finally, we considered the convenience of each location. Surely, some of those pizzerias are located downtown and it might be trickier to find a spot nearby. But most of them offer parking spaces for customers. Speaking of location, this list covers the best pizza restaurants located not only in the city center but also near Whyte Ave, Southside, Spruce Grove and even Leduc.

Rosso Pizzeria
Rosso is one of those places which locals mention when newcomers ask for tips on where to find the best pizza in Edmonton. The convenient location draws in customers after office hours (the pizzeria is located nearby downtown) and anyone else who simply decided to spend a day in the Downtown core and wanted to stop for authentic Neapolitan pizza. Yet, location is not the only factor that brings people in. After all, it is what is inside that matters most.
Quite proudly Rosso notices that every pizza they make is organic and always fresh, prepared by cooks with a deep passion for tradition, family and food. If you think of it, pizza is pizza, right? Just stretched dough and a pile of ingredients on top. Not quite! Rosso team is convinced that flavorful pies are a combination of a few factors: locally sourced, high-quality ingredients, proper oven (wood-fired) and craftsmanship skills.
During the research of the best pizzas in town, one repetitive opinion of Rosso caught my attention. People who look for authentic Neapolitan pizza find it at Rosso. And they repeat, one after another, that the quality is excellent every time.
Other customers mention the size of portions. As someone noted, a family of four ordered four pizzas to share. They ended up with a little leftover to take home, which was perfect.
Finally, it is the overall atmosphere of the restaurant. In one word, it is inviting. A cozy, yet stylish setting calls for conversations and relaxing with friends or family while united by good food.

Tony’s Pizza Palace
As mentioned in Avenue Magazine and VUE Magazine, Tony’s Pizza Palace was rated as “Best Tried and True” (Edmonton 2018) and “Golden Fork Award” (Best Pizza Edmonton 2017).
But, besides acknowledgement of local publications, it is long-established history—the reason why we can trust the quality of Tony’s Pizza Palace. The founder of the place came to Canada in 1959 bringing a passion for cooking Italian food from his hometown. Of course, it was not till 1974 that Tony moved back from New York and opened his first restaurant in Edmonton. (You can read the full story on their website. I found it quite captivating.) Yet, considering all experience the Italian family gained while owning their very first restaurant in New York, Tony’s pizza is still as good as ever: the legacy established almost a hundred years ago still lives.
Such a statement can be easily proved by reading numerous reviews from satisfied customers. For instance, this one mentions not only the taste and quality of pizza but also pasta. “My first time here and the pizza is amazing! It’s so different from the ones I ate before, as well as the spaghetti. I am not a big fan of spaghetti because I always feel like the noodles are too hard. However, the spaghetti here, it’s the perfect hardness. And the flavour, it’s not just sour and salty taste, it actually contains all these herbs and spices smell and levelled taste, it all brings the dish up to a new level. Best pizza and spaghetti ever!” said a satisfied customer.
My favourite aspect of Tony’s Pizza Palace is their artistic approach to every dish they make. Someone else on reviews noticed that too. “This one guy made pizza bread his art,” said a satisfied customer, “You can watch them make your pizza and it literally is a work of art. He flew that dough into the air like a frisbee.”

Blaze Pizza
Blaze Pizza owners put it this way: “We believe in Here and Now. To us, that means fresh dough, NEVER FROZEN, made in-house each day simply from unbleached flour, filtered water, extra-virgin olive oil, salt, and a touch of sugar. No chemicals. No additives. No kidding.” And, frankly, when you walk into their restaurant and try Blaze’s pizza, you nod in agreement.
What I personally appreciate is when the name of a restaurant somehow matches the philosophy of the company and the food on one’s plate. In that sense ‘blaze’ truly responds to its meaning. Blaze’s pizza is cooked in 180 seconds in a fast-fired oven which delivers a perfectly crispy, bubbly crust. As one satisfied customer noted, “I tried the thin crust this time and it was nice and crisp.” Try it, you’ll love it, he adds.
While this is great and all, there is one final and main factor which makes the place more unique than a typical pizzeria. You can build your own pie. Another customer rightly noticed, it is like subway, but a pizza version (keto, gluten-free pizza and cauliflower crust included). You can select as many toppings as you like, with no extra charge.

The Stone & Wheel Pizzeria
Thin crust pizza is a completely different type of a famous meal: the one you can eat almost without worrying about extra pounds on the waist. Or at least knowing that less dough means fewer calouries intake. However, despite crust thickness, it is the taste we are all looking for. The Stone and Wheel Pizzeria serves only authentic, carefully handcrafted pizzas. And yes, all thin crust.
I find it intriguing about The Stone and Wheel that they do not measure any ingredients. Each pizza, therefore, turns out unique and with a taste of home cooking. Yet, because only professionals are working in the kitchen, thin crust pizzas turn out simple, yet balanced with a combination of piquant flavours. I say Hawaiian and Meat Lover pizzas sound especially tempting.
It is a favourite place among many Edmontonians and especially those who live in South Edmonton. If you do not feel like driving to Whyte Ave or downtown to go out, keep this pizzeria in mind. The only thing you have to remember is that it is mainly a take-out place. While they do have a few tables to sit down at, many reviewers suggest you order online, then come pick it up, and eat outside if the weather permits.

LOVEPIZZA Canterra
LOVEPIZZA is a fast-growing local chain that started in January 2016 in Edmonton and now opened three more locations, Leduc including. That alone tells me how much locals love this place. I mean, what is there not to love. The name of the restaurant has the word ‘love’ in it after all. As the founders say, “Our pizza has been there for your birthdays, weddings, anniversary dinners and first dates. We have shared your milestones & memories and we couldn’t be more honored. Pizza has a special way of bringing people together, we are living proof of that.”
The team of a husband and wife strive to bring the community together not only by setting up cozy restaurants across the area, but also by catering to birthdays, parties and weddings. Speaking of which, someone who served LOVEPIZZA at their wedding said that it was delicious, with tons of fun flavours to choose from, for one of the best prices in event catering and with a top-quality product. Service was impeccable—friendly, accommodating, punctual, and easy to work with, they added.
What sounds the most appealing on the menu to me personally is the Meatatarian pizza. The topings are always fresh, the tomato sauce is flavourful, and the crust is baked to perfection. While many people take the pizza out, each location is set to provide a very inviting atmosphere for a quick lunch, gathering with friends or even a date.

Bianco
Bianco is all about combining the sophistication of the interior and high-quality meals. Established by two friends in downtown Edmonton, the place attracts with its genuine hospitality, and passion for Italian food. I must say this place is surely my favourite one, simply because pizza, or pasta, or whatever it is your order, comes along with vintage-inspired décor and an ambient atmosphere. It is the place you do not want to leave.
Everything here unites traditions and contemporary approaches. Joined in a unique twist, hand-made pasta and wood-fired pizzas are perfectly accompanied by a carefully crafted selection of wines and cocktails.
The only downside to it, based on some reviews, and I agree, is that portions are fairly small compared to prices. However, if you look at this as testing out chef’s inspired cuisine, freshly sourced ingredients, and adding exclusive décor with precise attention to detail, you are willing to pay a few dollars extra for such an experience.

Vaticano Cucina
Italian traditions and reflection of them when it comes to pizza or pasta is something Vaticano Cucina can surely boast of. Trademark décor and craftsmanship cooking take you, even if for a while, across the ocean to Italy where good wine and comfort food are the essence of one’s pleasures.
The Vaticano is also another place where you can be sure of tasting the finest, freshest ingredients combined with the chef’s creativity. Speaking of food, if you came for pizza, sure stick to it, for it is cooked in wood burning oven at 850 degrees. However, if you are in the mood for something else, the restaurant offers a vast menu of pasta, antipasti, salads, meats and more.
It is interesting that while compared to the earlier mentioned Bianco, the setting is not so fancy, not at all. And yet, most reviewers note the warm, inviting atmosphere of Vaticano Cucina. “Servers are friendly and personable, and made the experience feel very homely,” said a satisfied customer. “The food was good, their St. Anthony pizza especially,” he adds.
Speaking of atmosphere, Vaticano Cucina is also a popular spot for a romantic date, certain occasion, or any event where everything from food to service contributes to making your day special.

Famoso Neapolitan Pizzeria
I remember the first time I arrived in Edmonton, my husband, a boyfriend back then, took me to Famoso on Whyte Ave. The street was bustling with people, so we luckily got a window seat and watched the crowd, while enjoying pizza and pasta. Perhaps since then, the place has had a special sentimental value to me. Yet, if you look at what other reviewers say, many of them highlight the same point I just made. Famoso Neapolitan Pizzeria offers not only delicious food, but also an intimate atmosphere which contributes to long conversations.
Speaking of food, I suggest you try Abruzzo pizza and Tiramisu for dessert. Classic!
What makes Famoso’s food remarkable and worth coming back to for is the ingredients and cooking skills, no doubt. As they say, the tomatoes they use are imported from Campania, while mozzarella is made from 100% Canadian cow’s milk. Each pizza served at Famoso is hand-tossed by trained pizza makers then fired in an authentic bell-shaped oven imported from Italy.
Average prices:
Pizza: $17-25
Pasta: $19
