The Best Nintendo Switch Case of 2024

When it comes to game consoles, getting a protective case for one might not be the first thing that comes to mind. After all, most game consoles stay in your house and don’t move around too often. The Nintendo Switch is a little different though – it’s a handheld console and a regular console all in one. If you like to take your gaming on the go, getting a case might be a smart idea.

After all, you’ve probably spent more than $300 on your Nintendo Switcharound the price of a lower-end smartphone. If you wouldn’t risk dropping your phone on the ground without protection, the same should go for your Switch.

There’s a lot of Switch case options out there – if you’re feeling a little lost about what’s the best case for Nintendo Switch, don’t worry! The best Switch case will be different for everyone. For example, the best Nintendo Switch case for one person might be a case with enough storage for an AC adapter and game cartridges along with the Switch itself. For a different person, they might just want a case that enhances the aesthetic of their Switch with minimal protective qualities.

How to choose a Nintendo Switch case

What you should be looking for in a Nintendo Switch case really depends on what you want out of it. Nintendo Switch cases come in a variety of designs and with a variety of features, but here are a few things that you should consider about any case.

Material – Some materials are better for shock absorption, while others are more for keeping your console scratch-free. If you’re not prone to dropping your Switch or jostling it around in a bag full of other stuff, a fabric carrying case could be ideal for you.

Durability  No one wants a case that only lasts one drop  ideally, your case should last the entire lifetime of your Switch. Steering clear of thin, brittle plastic cases is probably a good idea.

Aesthetic Options  This might be a little lower on the list of things to consider, but it’s still something to consider, nonetheless. If you like the design of your case, you’re more likely to opt to use it when you’re out. There’s no point in getting a super protective case if you hate it and won’t use it.

You won’t have to worry about rainy days, accidentally spilling drinks or dropping your Switch on the ground with this case. It also fits up to 20 game cartridges, a power adaptor and extra joy-cons. In addition to being a great protective case, the Mumba carrying case would also make a great Nintendo Switch travel case because of its large storage capacityOn Amazon, it has a rating of 4.6 stars and consumers seem to really like it.

Pros
  • Protection from falls, scratches and moisture.

Best Nintendo Switch carrying bag

PowerA Everywhere Messenger Bag – Zelda: Breath of the Wild

If you have a lot of Nintendo Switch accessories to lug around, small carrying cases might not be enough to fit everything you need. But you don’t have to decide what to leave behind with the PowerA Everywhere messenger bag.

You might be wondering how exactly is this different from putting your Switch in a regular bag.  There are a few features that separate this messenger bag from other ones – first off, this messenger bag comes with a removable internal case to protect your console. Cases, on average, usually cost around $15-20. That’s one less thing you need to purchase for your Switch right off the bat.

In addition, it has fitted compartments for both your Switch as well as your other Switch accessories. With fitted compartments, you won’t have to worry about your Nintendo Switch scratching or colliding into your other items or vice versa.

What’s also nice about this bag is that it’s a little less clunky to carry around than other Switch cases that only have a wrist strap. You can wear it like you would any other bag and keep your hands free.

What’s also nice about this bag is that it comes in a few different designs. It might be a good replacement or alternative for a Nintendo Switch Zelda case or Nintendo Switch Mario case, since it has designs that cater to people who are a fan of either series. If you want a plain bag that will match any of your outfits, the PowerA Everywhere messenger bag also just comes in gray-black.

Pros
  • It can fit your Switch and all of its accessories (e.g. pro controllers.)
  • It comes in a variety of designs (gray-black, Zelda and Mario Super Bros.)
Cons
  • Pricier than the average Nintendo Switch case.
  • Not waterproof.

  • Good shock absorption protection.
  • Relatively light.
  • Relatively affordable.
  • It comes in a variety of different colours.

For people who prioritize practicality, this could be a good option, as this case was designed for you to play without having to remove it every single time. You won’t have to take off this case to have access to any buttons, ports or kickstand access.

It’s reasonably priced on Amazon, Best Buy Canada and Walmart and it collects positive reviews everywhere (it frequently gets five-star reviews at online retailer websites). What’s specifically great about this case is that it’s slim, as its name suggests, even though it has the capability to protect your Switch Lite from any drops or scratches. It even has enough space to fit 8 game cartridges, which is quite a rare feature for Nintendo Switch cases this size.

  • It comes in a variety of colours.
  • It takes up less space than others.
  • Highly protective.
Cons

How we picked the best Nintendo Switch cases

For this particular buying guide, we wanted to choose reasonably affordable Switch cases with reviews of at least 4.0 stars or higher on Amazon and other online retailers.

To select the best ones, we looked at what factors top-rated cases had in common as well as what factors made each case unique and worth buying on its own. We found that for the average consumer, having a case with reasonable durability and some storage capacity was important. We also took into consideration the aesthetics of each case – after all, you probably won’t use the most protective case in the world if it doesn’t look great or come in at least a few options.

Frequent Nintendo Switch case questions

Are Nintendo Switch cases worth it?

In our opinion, absolutely. It’s always a smart idea to have some sort of protection for the electronics we carry around. It’s a lot cheaper to get a case for a Switch than it is to send it off for repairs.

In addition, Switch cases don’t necessarily have to be all about protection, they can almost work as decor items as well. Some of them also offer great storage solutions for your Switch accessories. The game cartridges are relatively small, so it’s nice to have a place to keep all your Switch related gear together.

Other Nintendo Switch cases

Shareconn Nintendo Switch Carrying Case

While this case didn’t make it into our main list, we still think it’s worth a mention. It’s the only Nintendo Switch case that we’ve seen so far that comes with a tempered glass screen protector. Tempered glass screen protectors provide better scratch protection and a little more impact protection than regular film protectors do. In addition to this, the case is made out of EVA material that’s water-resistant and dustproof – water resistance was also a feature we didn’t see in many Switch cases. As with other cases, the Shareconn Nintendo Switch carrying case also comes with enough storage to pack accessories such as joy-cons or game cartridges.

Waterfield Nintendo Switch Pouch

If you or someone you know wants a more luxurious form of light protection for their Nintendo Switch, this pouch might fit the bill. They have several options ranging from full-grain leather, ballistic nylon (abrasion-resistant nylon) or waxed canvas (for water resistance purposes) with plush lining in each. Starting at $49 USD, this pouch is definitely one of the pricier ones we’ve seen on our search for the best Switch cases. The $49 USD option will net you either the ballistic nylon or the waxed canvas version of the pouch. These versions of the Waterfield Nintendo Switch pouch will fit a few game cards along with your Switch and USB-C charging cable. If that’s not quite enough room for you, an extra fee of $19 USD will add on matching 10-game cardholder.

Overall, the higher-end prices for these pouches can be worth it since they’ll probably last longer than your average case. However, the storage in these pouches is pretty limited, so these pouches are really only a good choice if you like to travel light or if you like to keep your Switch accessories in a separate place.

Surge Nintendo Switch Case

If you’re looking to get a Switch case while on a budget, the Surge Nintendo Switch carry-all case is priced reasonably on the Walmart website. Like most other cases, it comes with enough storage space for your joy-cons as well as a few games. A common complaint on the Amazon review page, however, is that the elastic straps are flimsy and cumbersome to use.

Hori Splatoon 2 Hard Pouch for Nintendo Switch

In terms of protective capabilities and storage capabilities, it ranks about average for both. It has a standard hardshell exterior while the cushioned interior features enough storage for 5 game cartridges. On Amazon, it’s listed for around $35. While it is somewhat pricier than many of the other cases listed in this guide, it might be worth it for someone who wants a cute accessory for their Switch without needing a lot of storage.

Since this case has so much storage, it probably won’t surprise you to hear that this case retails for way above the average price on Amazon. However, with a rating of 4.7 stars, the price is probably worth it if you like having all of your gear in one place. One con to note about this particular case is that a number of reviews state that the handle is prone to coming loose.

Smatree Hard Case N600

Here’s another option if you’re looking for a case that will fit both your Switch and all of its accessories. You’ll be able to fit your Switch, HDMI and charging cables, dock, power adapter, 21 game cards as well as joy cons.

The difference between this case and the other travel-worthy case we’ve listed in this guide is that there’s interior EVA foam fitted slots to protect your Switch and your accessories and to prevent them from colliding into one another. Something to consider, however, is that this is one of the most expensive Switch cases on Amazon. One common complaint to also consider is that you might experience controller battery drainage if too much pressure is applied to the top of your case.
