So… Apple has announced the new iPhone 12

Apple has just announced there four new models of their next iPhone generation and we weren’t sure if that’s cause for celebration or despair given that their iPhone 11 was just released in late 2019. The models are the iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Mini, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max. If you’re thinking of upgrading you might be wondering what the difference is between these new models and your ancient 11. The appearance is sure to give you a nostalgia trip as it harkens back to the days of the iPhone 5 with its slim but boxy design. It also improves on its water and dust-proof design with an IP68 rating. This is just a quick run-down of some new updates.

Better Camera 

The iPhone 12 and mini have slightly upgraded the 3-camera capabilities of its predecessor, with new Night Mode photos for the wide lens and selfie cameras for low-light shots. Most of the changes can be seen on the two Pro models, which include a fourth telephoto camera for long-distance shots. Plus, new Smart HDR 3 offers more creative control, better colour, texture and detail in photos, with the Pro models also including LiDAR to improve the phone’s depth perception. 

Better Connectivity 

This is the generation that apple makes 5G official; the unfairly maligned cellular network. Use of 5G promises to speed up data, respond faster and greater connectivity between devices. Apple promises (as usual) that their new phones are incredibly, to boost streaming and FaceTime capabilities. 

However… 

In the name of combating climate change, no longer will you find a charger and headphones in the box. Apple recently stirred the pot with its removal of the headphone jack from the iPhone 7; no doubt to gently nudge users to buying their pricey wireless ear pods, Bluetooth headsets and proprietary lightning-cable earbuds. Now, they’re doing something similar with the upgrade to USB-C. What does this mean? Basically, if you choose to upgrade, your adapter (the little block you plug into the wall) is useless. But don’t worry! Apple is happy to offer you some adapters starting at $54.95.
